What to Expect During Your Facelift Surgery
Preparing for Surgery
Most of your preparation for facelift surgery will take place during your personal consultation with Dr. Lickstein. During this appointment, he will review your medical history and conduct a thorough evaluation of the treatment area. One of the most important parts of your consultation with Dr. Lickstein is a candid discussion of both your frustrations and your goals for the outcome of your facelift. Based on your input, you and Dr. Lickstein will formulate a customized treatment plan that is specifically designed to help you achieve the outcome you desire.
Before your facelift consultation is concluded, Dr. Lickstein and our team will make sure all of your questions are answered to your satisfaction. We will also give you detailed information on what you can expect during the facelift procedure as well as during your recovery.
How Facelift Surgery Works
Facelift surgery is an outpatient procedure, performed under either general anesthesia or IV sedation.
Before beginning your facelift, Dr. Lickstein will meet with you to go over your treatment plan and make markings on your skin with your guidance to ensure you feel confident in the outcome of your procedure. Once you are asleep, Dr. Lickstein will make an incision within your hairline, beginning at your temples and extending behind your ear to your lower scalp. He will gently tighten the tissues and fascia underlying your face and sculpt and reposition the soft tissue before redraping the skin over your face. Excess skin will be removed, and the incisions will be closed with sutures.2
Facelift Recovery
After facelift surgery, you can expect to experience mild to moderate discomfort, swelling, and bruising. Dr. Lickstein will prescribe medications to help you stay comfortable. You will see Dr. Lickstein to have stitches and drainage tubes removed within a few days of your procedure.
Most patients see a significant reduction in swelling and bruising within a week or two of their facelift surgery, though the full extent of swelling may not subside for a few months. The majority of Dr. Lickstein’s patients feel comfortable returning to work within two to three weeks of facelift surgery.
Facelift Results
After a facelift with Dr. Lickstein, patients enjoy a dramatically more youthful appearance that looks naturally refreshed; never “pulled” or “too tight.” The skin of the face looks firmer, more taut, and less wrinkled, and results can last up to 10 years. Even more remarkable than the facial transformation Dr. Lickstein’s patients enjoy, however, is the deep sense of satisfaction and improved self-confidence they feel after a facelift. According to extensive research, more than 98% of facelift patients report that the results they achieved far exceeded their expectations.3
